The Daddy Tag

Little Daddy was nominated by the lovely Geraldine at Over Heaven’s Hill  to take part in #TheDaddyTag which is the creation of The Frenchie Mummy, with a few choice interludes by Little Mama, Little Daddy was left much to his own devices!

I would like to nominate the following lovely bloggers to take part (if you haven’t done it already!);

Wendy’s other half, Oli at Naptime Natter

Bridget at Bridie by the Sea and,

Annette at 3 Little Buttons

Are you a Stay at Home Daddy or a Working Daddy?

I’m a working Little Daddy, *whistling Dolly Parton’s 9-5!* Sorry I know it’s in your head now!

Would you have it any other way?

Yes, I’d love a bit more flexibility and stay at home but I’m working to provide the best life for my 9 month old Little Lord.

Do you co-change dirty nappies? Even the very smelly ones?

I have been peed on, pooed on, (I’m pretty sure he aims for me, and trust me, his aim is good) more times than I can count. Honestly, some of those nappies, could seriously gag a maggot. Up the back, round the sides, there are no limits to my nappy changing talents.

A little fairy gives you the possibility of breastfeeding? Are you going for it or do you run away?

If it meant being able to feed my son then yes I would, people need to get over the idea of breastfeeding as anything other than providing for their child (if that is the method they choose) It would take some getting used to for sure, though I’m sure it was the same for my wife when she breastfeeds!

{Little Mama Interlude}

This is an interesting one! Obviously men aren’t able to breastfeed so the idea of it at first is quite strange, but if it was possible, I’d like to think it would become common place, just like it should be for women who breastfeed.

What is the one must-have item for a daddy?

My wife always says this, (she even mentioned it [here]) and I couldn’t agree more (for once) but eyes on the back of your head is a complete necessity in this parenting game. Just think of it like a training programme to become a ninja warrior…certificate included.

How many kids do you plan on having?

One more, the stress of the birth of the Little Lord is something that both of us will never truly get over. If you haven’t read about his story, see [here] where our son’s life was saved.

In the incubator
In his intensive care incubator. The first photo we took. Probably the most conflicting photo we have, I look at it and I’m instantly in love, but pained when I remember what he went through

Lads’ nights? How often do you have them?

Hardly ever now, I would much rather have a cup of tea and an early night, catching up on TV shows, Little Daddy and Little Mama are TV and Movie geeks- didn’t you know that already?

Your children’s favourite achievement?

When he learnt how to crawl, I love being able to play chasing games with him now. I get down and crawl after him and he loves it, it’s the sound of his laugh and the way his little baby butt moves like lightening to get away- it’s hilarious, certainly a sight to see. Our bonding activity everyday is his daily bath time, I let him roam around naked – typical bloke! You can see the Little Lord’s first attempts at crawling [here], in his spy days as BOND BABY!

What is your best memory with your kid(s)?

Having skin to skin contact the very first time I was able to hold him, when he came out of his intensive care cubicle. The reality of becoming a Little Daddy changed my life forever. I’ll never forget having that very first cuddle with this precious bundle that very nearly didn’t make it. I clung to him and could feel the love swell inside, I knew I was going to protect him and do my best for him in that moment.

{Little Mama Interlude}

My favourite memory is watching this moment and realising that this was my new family and the sense of belonging was amazing.

Name one thing you miss since being a daddy?

In the time before my son was born, Little Mama always said to make the most of sleeping in at the weekend and I never did, I was always up before 9am raring to go. I look back on those days, and think now that by 9am half the day is gone! Picture slight eye bags and reminiscence of sleep, picture Gollum (Lord of the Rings, see we ARE geeks!)

Weight gain, before pregnancy, during, after and now? And we mean YOU DADDY, not the mummy!

I was in the realm of ‘chicken legs’ before pregnancy. During pregnancy, if my wife is eating, I may as well too, (eating for two you know, that’s my excuse!) And now, I think everyone refers to it as a premature ‘Dad bod’, slowly but surely taking shape, although I’ll never quite get to full term. (You see, I really do enjoy all those nights in, with cups of tea and obviously, you HAVE to have biscuits)

Dream holiday with your kids?

All the theme parks in Florida, when the Little Lord is at an age where he would love it, and make life long memories. I’m a bit of a thrill seeker too, but the Little Lord is the original adrenaline junkie. Seriously, he loves being held up high and being transported like he’s on a spaceship- a ‘Lordship’ if you must!

Dream holiday without your kids or even without the other half? (You’re allowed to dream)

St Barts, white sands, blue seas, cold beer- done! I’m a man of simple pleasures. Wouldn’t even need to be without my little man or the wife!

{Little Mama interlude}

He clearly is looking to keep me sweet!

How has your life changed since having kids?

The most cliche answer, but honestly the truest thing I’ve ever written, my life has changed for the best, it has a purpose now beyond myself and my wife, we have this innocent little boy who I want to provide for, give him everything in life, teach him the wonders of the world and ingrain values that hopefully, he will take with him through his life and eventually when he has a family of his own.

Finish the sentence “It makes my heart melt when…”

The Little Lord can be quite selective with the kisses and cuddles at times, it really makes me melt when I come home from work, he’s so excited saying, ‘Dada Dada Dada,’ and I lift him up, whirl him around, get a giggle from him and finally a kiss and a cuddle. The highlight of my day- everyday!

Favourite beer brands and football team?

Beer- Sol or Guinness (must be the Irish wife’s influence!)

Football- Tottenham, I’m a Spurs man and the Little Lord will be too- he already has a full kit, he has no choice! Although his Granda is a Arsenal fan and threatens to supplant my Spurs influence- the rivalry is intense!

Huggies or Pampers?

Neither, when we went to parenting classes the midwives gave us the best tip ever and we haven’t looked back, for us, we tried Pampers and we really didn’t get on well with them and the Little Lord. The midwives we had, swore by Mamia by Aldi, they are the Winner of the Year for a few years running now, and they are truly great!

{Little Mama Interlude}

Completely agree, in our experience Mamia has won hands down!

Have you always wanted kids?

Yes! To be a parent, it’s the most amazing journey. I always wanted kids but I never knew how much I would enjoy being a father, to have half of my genetics and half of my beautiful wife’s genetics (although the Little Lord is a ‘mini me’!) and to watch him grow. I could never imagine not being a father.

{Little Mama Interlude}

The Little Lord is completely a body double of my husband, his personality is starting to shine through too! I’m sure I’m in the mix somewhere though!

Best part of being a dad?

Every part, even the ‘bad parts’ such as changing those nappies etc. it really makes the job worth while. The Little Lord is 9 months old now, over that time he has progressed so much, he’s got a personality (albeit cheeky like me) but he can crawl and stand, he’s so nearly walking- everyday with my son and my wife, together. It’s all the parts put together that makes my role as a Little Daddy complete.

  1. Thanks for completing the daddy tag challenge!
    Yeah, the idea of having eyes on the back of your head is definitely a good idea! And it gets worst when they get older and can properly walk!!! You little dude is a cutie! It’s so sweet the moment where you talk about him crawling! Great post! It’s obvious all the way through that having a baby transformed your life for the best! Hoping to hear more stories about him and to his next adventures! #thedaddytag
